The views of residents about entertainment was the subject of this public opinion poll conducted in São Paulo on March 20, 2010.
449 people were polled, 48% women and 52% men. The majority (59%) had a monthly family income of up to five times the minimum wage, 30% earn five to ten times the minimum wage and 9% earn more than ten times the minimum wage.
35% of respondents state they go out weekly for entertainment. 16% say they do not leave the house for entertainment.
The places that residents of São Paulo frequent include: bars and restaurants, malls and parks.
The major factors that preventing residents from going out are money (31%) and lack of time (19%). However, 22% of respondents say they go out whenever they want.
More women go to the mall for fun, while men are more likely to go to restaurants and bars. Men tend to spend more than women when they go out.
The frequency with which people go out for entertainment is directly linked to age:
68% of people 24 years of age and younger go out every week, but for those over 35 years of age it is just over 20%. 31% of people 60 years old or more do not usually go out. Among those aged 16 to 34 years only about 6% do not go out for entertainment.
